Coenobium Advisors, an international Governance, Risk, and Compliance consulting firm, today launched the inaugural episode of its Risk Matters podcast series with Episode 1 – Technology Risk Governance. The intended bi-monthly series aims to present viewers with meaningful insights from global experts on the most pressing risk matters facing the financial services industry worldwide.
The episode, hosted by the firm’s CEO Arion Petasis, focuses on technology risk governance and features special guest speaker Dr. Anthony Murphy. According to Murphy: “(This) is the most hostile environment we have encountered probably in the last 30 or 40 years, and that is certainly manifest in areas like increased cyber risk….(C)learly from the very interconnected nature of financial markets a problem in one institution or a large market infrastructure propagates very, very quickly through the system now.”
Joining Dr. Murphy on Episode 1’s expert panel are the firm’s Chairman, Claes Norgren in Stockholm, Sweden; its Chief Operating Officer, Damian Robinson in Athens, Greece; and Coenobium senior advisors Tom Loughlin in Washington, DC and Juan Perez Calot in Madrid, Spain. These four experts, who recently authored a position paper entitled Governance and Bank Technology Risk in a Dynamic Global Environment, discuss a wide-ranging technology risk agenda with Dr. Murphy, covering such topics as: technology risk and governance frameworks, cybersecurity risk and its governance implications for financial institutions, operational resilience, and technology risk management implications for board composition and human resources.
Episode 2 of Risk Matters is expected to air in the second half of September 2024, with its topic and guest speaker to be announced earlier that month.

Before becoming an independent board director of two major U.S. financial institutions–the Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC) and Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation Americas Holdings–Dr. Murphy, who also holds a Ph.D. in Theoretical Particle Physics from Oxford University, was a senior executive for many years with Promontory Financial Group (an IBM company), investment management firm Bridgewater Associates, and global banking giant HSBC.
